From Install Base to Verification Capability: Three Shifts in the Robotic Dresspack Industry

Summary: IFR 2024 installation data frames the demand base; the competitive focus is shifting from material names and one-off quotes to model-level fit, reproducible testing and project verification.
1. Start with one public data point
IFR's World Robotics 2025 reports 542,000 new industrial robots installed worldwide in 2024, of which China accounted for 295,000 units — 54% of the global total.
This figure describes industrial robot installations. It is not the size of the dresspack market, and it does not translate directly into any single supplier's share. It is better read as a demand base: every new robot and every replacement unit creates demand for cable protection, repair and retrofit.
2. More robots installed does not mean every supplier benefits
Robot model, reach, payload, mounting orientation and end-of-arm tooling all differ, so one universal conduit cannot cover every case. What buyers ultimately compare is whether a solution fits a specific model, survives the real motion envelope, and runs reliably under the actual working conditions.
3. Shift one: from “it can be fitted” to model-level fit
Selection used to start with “do you have a Series 48 or 70?” Today it should confirm J3/J4 axis bore positions, flanges, mounting brackets, the cable list, minimum bend radius and full-motion interference. Deciding on conduit diameter alone — without CAD models and a BOM — carries high risk. The standard bore range is 29/36/48/70 mm: first check the total outer diameter and number of cables and air lines, the minimum bend radius and the fill ratio, then pick the nearest standard bore.
4. Shift two: from material names to reproducible testing
PA6, PA12 and PUR describe material families; on their own they cannot establish the service life of a complete assembly. In our own testing, no abnormality was found after 5 million flexing cycles, while the torsion specimen showed whitening at the mid-section after testing, with no fracture recorded. Torsion testing references GB/T 37220-2018 and flexing testing references GB/T 5565.1-2017; a report must state the specimen, frequency, angle, radius and termination criteria.
5. Shift three: from one-off quotes to full lifecycle
Purchase price is only the first line of the cost sheet. Installation and commissioning, maintenance, spare parts, downtime and replacement interval all belong in the same comparison. Trial-fitting competing solutions under identical working conditions controls risk far better than comparing quotations alone.
6. The limits of this observation
This article does not treat installation volume as dresspack market size, and does not extend a single specimen test to a service-life conclusion for every model. Procurement decisions should still rest on the robot model, the BOM, test reports and trial-fit records.
