Dresspack Selection Pitfalls: Five Conditions You Must Verify

Summary: Model, cables, motion, working conditions and verification — confirm all five before you buy, so you do not discover it will not fit, pulls too tight, or runs out of life.
1. The robot model is not the series name
“KUKA KR” or “ABB IRB” is not enough. Confirm the full model, version, payload, reach and mounting orientation. If the model is wrong, the interface and motion envelope that follow will be wrong too.
2. List every cable and hose
Record outer diameter, quantity, connectors and minimum bend radius for power, signal and communication cables, air lines, water lines and stud-feed tubes. Giving only a total cross-section easily misses the minimum bend radius of an individual cable.
3. Check extreme poses in the motion envelope
Production poses are only part of the picture. Also check maintenance poses, tool changes and external-axis combinations. Many interference problems never appear in normal production — only during tool change or service.
4. Working conditions determine material and structure
Temperature, weld spatter, oil, dust, washdown and flexing/torsion frequency all differ, and so do material and structure. CPP is a modified PA6 conduit solution, while SDP is an aramid-fabric cable wrapping structure — they are not two parallel sheathing materials. Common protection levels are chosen by scenario: IP40 for handling and 3C assembly, IP54 for body-in-white and spot welding, IP65 for grinding and washdown, IP67 for short-term immersion. IP ratings must be confirmed by testing the specific model to GB/T 4208-2017.
5. Life data must come with conditions
In our own testing, no abnormality was found after 5 million flexing cycles, while the torsion specimen showed whitening at the mid-section, with no fracture recorded — but a report is valid for the submitted specimen only. Torsion testing references GB/T 37220-2018 and flexing testing references GB/T 5565.1-2017; the life of a complete dresspack also depends on the cables, connectors and motion path.
6. Turn the five points into a checklist
For each item, record who provides it, when it is confirmed, and whether ordering is permitted before confirmation. Selection is not a single meeting; it is a set of traceable confirmation steps.
